Leech Lake Eastside Report – 06/06/2022
The bite continues to stay hot! This week with the higher winds and increasing water temps the walleye bite has increased even during the day. 1/8 or 1/4 ounce jigs tipped with a shiner or leech has been very productive. Make sure to try different colors which can make a difference on cloudy or sunny days. The color Parrot has been my favorite but when you mark fish and they won’t go be sure to try a blue and white, watermelon or gold. Fish activity has increased around Pelican Island, red rocks, diamond point and partridge point. These fish can scatter during the day out into 15 to 18 feet of water. Pulling bottom bouncers with a crawler or leech is a great way to cover a little more ground. The Annex is still holding a good number of fish, mostly fish over 20 inches. Pike have also moved in which can make for some exciting hook sets! Keeping the bait away from the boat is key due to increased water clarity. Sometimes just setting up on fish and letting them come back around can be a great way to get increase your odds.
West side report Leech Lake!
We are seeing water temps in the high 50’s to mid 60’s which means increased bite activity during the day. We are seeing fish transition from there spring patterns to early summer patterns now. Many of these fish will leave the shallow bays and move onto 1st or secondary breaks. Fishing activity in agency bay and walker bay will begin to pick up as water temps stabilize in the 60’s. Pitching 1/8 or 1/4 jigs tipped with a minnow, leech or half a night crawler can be very productive. Slip bobbers and lindy rigs are another sure way to approach those fish and are moving deeper into the 10 to 20 foot range. Targeting panfish in the northern bays is a great way to get rods bending if the walleye fishing isn’t going as planned.
